Cutting
Nickel-Chromium
In this video, Austin Zimmerman from Houston Metal Sawing introduces viewers to the process of cutting 718 Inconel, a highly valued metal known for its high nickel content, excellent rust inhibitors, and robust strength. Demonstrating the use of the Q 1002 triple chip carbide blade from Sawblade.com, Austin elaborates on the specifics of feeds, speeds, and downfeed rates for the material. The video underscores Inconel’s widespread usage in various industries including oil and gas, aerospace, and more due to its strength and resistance to corrosion.
About Nickel-Chromium
Nickel-Chromium is designed to resist a wide range of severely corrosive environments, pitting and crevice corrosion. This nickel steel alloy also displays exceptionally high yield, tensile, and creep-rupture properties at high temperatures.
This nickel alloy is used from cryogenic temperatures up to long term service at 1200° F. One of the distinguishing features of Inconel 718’s composition is the addition of niobium to permit age hardening which allows annealing and welding without spontaneous hardening during heating and cooling.
